Summary
Cuca Legal welcomes disadvantaged children and teenagers, providing art and education workshops, as well as support to families for better academic achievement, social inclusion, violence prevention and income generation.
Description of Project
Founded and run by health professionals concerned with the impact of violence and the lack of opportunities on young people’s mental health, Cuca Legal is the main programme of Nucleo de Referencia.
Cuca Legal works with at risk young people outside of school hours, giving them new skills, hobbies and a different perspective on life. It offers cultural and educational workshops, as well as pedagogical orientation and support to families with the aim of better academic achievement, cultural and social inclusion, prevention of violence and the generation of earnings and employment for these young people.
The programme works in an interdisciplinary manner; acting alongside children, adolescents and family members. It is centered around the specific interests of the Frade region. The core of the work to be developed every day goes through an activity called ‘mesão’, or a meeting around a table where children and coordinators talk about the activity and how it will develop. The planned activity is the adapted and iterated according to each child’s suggestions.
The workshops currently offered are the following: IT, CLAY, MODELLING, DANCE, LITERATURE, DRAWING, CRAFTWORKS, MUSIC, THEATRE, SEA of ANGRA, GOLF and WOODWORKS
