Cerniquem paediatric burns unit.

In 2010, La Vida was the beneficiary charity of the Deutsche Bank Retail Dinner. We put the funds raised towards the creation of a paediatric burns unit in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, at a centre called called Cerniquem.  Together with the matching funds supplied by The Angus Lawson Memorial Trust, we financed the purchase of all the equipment to set up the specialised surgical ward.

Below is a link to a You Tube video put together by Cerniquem a couple of weeks ago, which gives a summary of the project since its creation a decade ago and talks among other things about the paediatric surgical unit. It has been a huge success and hundreds of patients come from all over Bolivia to be operated on during their annual campaign. To date over 2,000 seriously injured children have had reconstructive surgery to improve their appearance, and the early intervention they have had increases their prospects for recovery.
